There are many specific surgeries that focus on the abdomen, intestines, and other internal organs. General surgeons specialize in procedures involving the abdominal contents. The following is a list of the abdominal and bariatric surgical procedures Dr. Koeplin performs.
Bariatric surgery includes several specific operations to the stomach or intestines that are geared at helping obese patients lose weight. Dr. Koeplin performs all of the following bariatric procedures:
- Gastric Bypass. This procedure involves reducing the size of the stomach and connecting it directly to the small intestine.
- Sleeve Gastrectomy. In this surgery, your stomach is restructured to limit the amount of calories absorbed by the body.
- Lap Band. This surgery consists of implanting an inflatable band around the stomach. When the band inflates, it compresses the stomach and limits your food intake.
- Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch. This procedure starts with a sleeve gastrectomy and adds an additional procedure to produce malabsorption and thus greater weight loss
If you are struggling with obesity, bariatric surgery may be a good option for you. Contact Dr. Koeplin to discuss your surgery options.
